Medical Considerations

Those at risk of developing infective endocarditis (an infection of the heart’s inner lining or the heart valves) should receive short-term preventative antibiotics before routine dental and medical procedures.

People who should take antibiotics include those with:

• Artificial heart valves
• A history of infective endocarditis
• Certain specific, serious congenital (present from birth) heart conditions

At Donison Dental we follow the guidelines and protocols set out by the Canadian Dental Association concerning antibiotic prophylaxis for patients with total joint replacements prior to dental procedures.
